Can you make a personal injury claim for holiday accidents?

Many people book their holidays months in advance and then spend months imagining the perfect getaway. While holidays can sometimes fall short of this expectation, nobody expects to have their break cut short by a serious accident. Unfortunately this does happen, but making a personal injury claim can help compensate for your injuries and disappointments.

If the accident happens because of the negligence of a UK based travel agent or their representatives you should be able to make a personal injury claim in the same way as if it happened at home. However, if the accident happens outside of a hotel - at a shop or restaurant for example - making a claim can become complicated and possibly expensive.

Of course, it's entirely possible that you could suffer an accident while travelling to your hotel destination. Perhaps you were injured by falling overhead luggage on a plane or suffered from food poisoning on a ferry - whatever it was, you should be able to make a claim if those transport providers travelled from the UK.

As with any other personal injury claim, you have three years from the date of the accident to apply for compensation - the exception to this rule is for air travel. Nevertheless, it's unlikely you'll want to unnecessarily delay making a claim, so getting in touch with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your options shouldn't be put off for too long once you get home.

The laws surrounding accidents abroad can be complex, so you'll need a personal injury lawyer that has experience in this area. If you're unsure whether you are able to make a claim - perhaps because the accident was the fault of a foreign company - you can always find free advice from British-based lawyers that can help you make the right decision.
